Introduction to National Penghu University of Science and Technology

The National Penghu University of Science and Technology is situated in the picturesque Penghu County of Taiwan, specifically in Magong City on the main island. Penghu is renowned for its stunning islands and beaches. NPU has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students and a faculty of 174 members. The university comprises the School of Ocean Resource Engineering, the School of Tourism and Leisure, the School of Humanities and Management, and the Common Education Committee. Air travel from Taipei and Kaohsiung takes less than one hour, with one-way airfare typically costing under US$100. Tuition per semester is the lowest among all public universities in Taiwan, and numerous financial aid and work-study opportunities are available both on and off campus. NPU students can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities related to the sea. The university provides dormitory accommodations for all freshman students at a cost of NT$9,000 (approximately US$300) per semester. Job opportunities in Taiwan after graduation are highly promising.

The Department of Electrical Engineering is the largest department at National Penghu University of Science and Technology. It currently comprises a regular four-year undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering, a Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a five-year program in Electrical Engineering.

The four-year university program in Electrical Engineering accepts students from vocational high schools through university entrance examinations or recommendation applications. Graduates are awarded a bachelor's degree upon completion of the program.

The 5-Year Program in Electrical Engineering accepts students from junior high school, allowing them to graduate as equivalent to sophomore students in a traditional four-year university program. After graduation, they can choose to continue their education in the four-year program as junior students, provided they meet the qualifications, or they may seek employment directly. One of the requirements for graduation is the possession of a specific certificate from the Department of Labor in designated areas.

The Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science accepts students from four-year university programs, and they are awarded a Master of Science degree upon graduation. The major course areas of the NPU Electrical Engineering department include industrial control and green energy. Research directions vary with each professor; please refer to the "Faculty" page for more information.

Please refer to the "Curriculum" page for the courses offered.

Currently, there are nine tenured professors, four project professors, and one project lecturer.
